Hasbro Relocates Toy and Board Game Headquarters to Boston Seaport
Business | 15 Sept, 2025
Hasbro Inc., one of the world’s leading toy and entertainment companies, has announced a major relocation of its toys, board games, and licensing headquarters from Rhode Island to Boston’s Seaport District. The move is part of Hasbro’s broader “Playing to Win” strategy, aimed at driving innovation and long-term growth. The transition is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, impacting approximately 700 employees.
Strategic Shift to Boston
The decision marks a significant change for Hasbro, which has been based in Rhode Island for nearly 100 years. According to CEO Chris Cocks, the relocation is designed to position the company for future success by leveraging Boston’s business ecosystem, academic partnerships, and cultural vibrancy.
“Boston’s thriving business community, deep academic partnerships and cultural vibrancy... give Hasbro an unparalleled foundation for growth,” said Cocks.
The new Boston office will serve as the primary hubfor Hasbro’s toy and board game divisions, licensing operations, and most corporate services. Meanwhile, the company’s West Coast headquarters in Renton, Washington, will continue to lead its gaming and digital businesses, including iconic franchises such as Magic: The Gatheringand Dungeons & Dragons.
Financial Context and Restructuring
The relocation comes amid a broader restructuring effort. Earlier this year, Hasbro announced a 3% workforce reduction, affecting around 150 employees. The company is working to streamline operations and refocus its brand portfolio following a challenging financial period.
In its Q2 2025 earnings report, Hasbro posted a 1% year-over-year revenue decline, totaling $981 million. More notably, the company reported a net loss of $854.7 million, compared to a net income of $138.5 million during the same period last year. These figures highlight the urgency behind Hasbro’s transformation strategy and its efforts to regain momentum in a competitive global toy market.
Global Presence and Industry Impact
Despite the financial headwinds, Hasbro maintains a strong international presence, with offices and manufacturing facilities across the United States, Hong Kong, London, Mexico City, and Montreal. The Boston move is seen as a step toward revitalizing its core toy and board game business while fostering innovation in a city known for its tech and creative industries.
Industry analysts suggest the relocation could help Hasbro attract top talent in design, engineering, and licensing, especially as the toy industry continues to evolve with digital integration and experiential play. Boston’s Seaport District, known for its mix of startups, established firms, and cultural institutions, offers fertile ground for Hasbro’s next chapter.
As Hasbro prepares for this transition, stakeholders across the toy industry will be watching closely to see how the company leverages its new environment to drive product development, brand partnerships, and consumer engagement.
